NIPAH VIRUS INFECTION

Nipah virus infection is an emerging zoonotic disease which was first recognized in a large outbreak in malaysia and singapore from September1998 to may 1999.

In india three outbreak in human were reported from siliguri (2001), Nadia (2007) in west bengal and kozhikode (2018) in Krela.

From bats of pteropus genus are the natural reservoir of nipah virus(paramyxovirus)

Transmission to human occurs after direct with infected bats, pigs or from human being.

Incubation periods:- 4-21 days.


Clinical fetures:-

Moderate to high grade fever, headache vomiting cough breathlessness change in sensorium seizures myalgia fatigue .


Treatment is limited to supportive care.
