INTRAVENOUS CANNULATION ( iv cannulation)

Definition :-

Intravenous cannulation is a technique in which a cannula is placed a vein to provide venous acesss. Venous access allows sampling of blood as well as administration of fluids medication, parentral nutrition, chemotherapy,and blood product.

      Cannulas are available in various colours each of which correspond to the size of the tube.
 The required size depends on type of fluid need to be infused.

~ Venous acess allows sampling of blood 
~ To administration of intravenous fluids
~ To inject medications
~ To substitute parenteral nutrition
~ To infuse chemotherapy drugs and blood products.

Alcohal clenser- To use as a hand rub prevention of cross infection.

Gloves- To be used as a PPE

An alcohal- To clean the site of insertion

A disposable tourniquet- to maintain the patency of vein

An iv cannula - To introduction of fluids 

A suitable plaster- To secure the cannula into the site.

A syringe - to flush the cannula 

Saline - isotonic agent used to flush the tube 

Paper bag / kidney tray - To receive the waste .
