> pain is defined as an unpleasant sensory perception caused by injury or illness.
Pain theories:-
-the specific theory:- there are specife pain receptors and pathways exist to transmit pain signals to pain centre in the brain.
-The pattern theory:- this theory asserts the existence of rapid and slow conduction pathway which conducts pain signal to the brain through spinal cord.
-The gate control theory:-This theory emphasize that non painful signal closes the gates to painful signal. This prevents pain information from travelling to cns .hence nonpainful stimulate can supress the pain perception. This theory forms the basic for some nonpharmacological pain management techniques i.e. Distraction,acupressure and cutaneous stimulation etc.
Pain assessment:-
~ 0-10 rating scale ,face rating scale ,visual analogue scale , questionnaire ,behavioral pain scale ,pain flow chart and body diagram.
Pain classification:-
-Acute pain and chronic pain.
Pharmacological management of pain:-
- Nonsteroidal antiinflamatory drugs {NSAID}
- Opoid analgesis narcoticagents :- Used for severe and acute pain.
