Introduction:-
Scarring of the liver in which normal liver tissue will be replaced. Chemical and infection can cause this condition. But most common cause of this condition is alcohal use.
It is twice as common in men as in women, and most patients are between ages 40 to 60.
Common types:-
- Micronodular
- Macronodular
- Biliary
- Cardiac
Sign and symptom:-
Anorexia
Nausea
Vomiting
Weight loss
Constipation
Diarrhoea
Jaundice and hepatic encephalopathy may occur
Ascites
Esophageal varices and
Peripheral edema may occur.
Treatment and management:-
-Paracentesis to remove ascetic fluid; Peritoneovenous shunt may be used.
-Pottassium-sparing diuretic to treat ascities and peripherial edema
Vitamin K- to reduce bleeding trndency
Lactulose- To treat bleeding esophageal varices
Vasopression - to treat bleeding esophageal varices
Blood transfusions may be required if excessive bleedings exists.
