LEVEL OF PREVENTION

Mainly type of prevention are following

Primordial prevention

* it is a new concept receiving special attention in the prevention of chronic diseases.

* it emphasizes on the prevention of emergency of risk factors in countries or population in which they have not yet appeard.

* in primordial prevention efforts are directed towards discouraging children from adopting harmful lifestyles.

* The main intervention in primordial prevention in throught individual and mass education.

Primary prevention

* it can be defined as action taken prior to the onset of diseases,which removes the possibility that a disease will ever occur.

* it signifies intervention in the prepathogen phase of disease or health problem or other departure from health.

Secondary prevention

 

*It means action which halts the progress of disease at its incipient stage and prevents complication .

* The intervention are early diagnosis and adequate treatment.

* through early diagnosis and adequate treatment this strategy attempts to arrest disease progress and to restore health.

Tertiary prevention

* it signifies the intervention in the late pathogenesis phase.

* it can defined as all measures available to reduce or limit imairment and disabilities,minimize suffering caused by existing departure from good health and to promote patients adustment to immediate conditions. E.g. rehabilitation activities.
